The wife of former Scotland footballer Colin Hendry has died after surgery to correct a botched cosmetic surgery, according to a BBC report.
In 2002, Denise Hendry, 42, from Lytham in Lancashire, suffered multiple organ failure after a liposuction procedure. She suffered nine punctures to her bowel and colon during the procedure at Broughton Park hospital and developed blood poisoning. In November 2006, she was awarded a six-figure sum in settlement of damages and the surgeon concerned asked to be removed from the General Medical Council’s register voluntarily. Mrs Hendry later underwent corrective surgery at Preston Royal Infirmary, which was not successful. In May this year, she underwent further corrective surgery on her abdomen at Salford General Hospital, but developed a meningitis-type infection and was seriously ill in hospital until her death on Friday (10/07/09). After her corrective surgery in May, her husband Colin – an ex-Blackburn Rovers player and former manager at Blackpool – described the development of the infection as a ‘devastating blow’. Mrs Hendry had campaigned to raise awareness of the dangers of cosmetic procedures and the necessity of checking a surgeon’s record and qualifications before undergoing surgery. Mr and Mrs Hendry had four children aged from nine to 19. Chief executive of the Scottish Football Association, Gordon Smith, said: ‘The thoughts of everyone at the Scottish FA – and, I am sure, everyone associated with the game here in Scotland – are with them at this tragic time.’ © 5r1 Limited Free Cosmetic Negligence Claims AdviceIf you or a loved one has suffered from cosmetic negligence, cosmetic error, mistake or cosmetic surgery gone wrong, then contact 5r1 Claims.
