NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde has confirmed that it has suspended a member of staff, after photographs of patients undergoing operations were posted on the social networking site Facebook.
A report in the Daily Record newspaper said the photographs were identified as having been taken at a hospital in Glasgow, although the identity of the patients was not obvious.
However, the NHS insignia visible in the operating room gave away the location of the room where the patients were photographed.
The newspaper report said the member of staff who had taken the images and uploaded them to Facebook was believed to be a nurse at the hospital. One source told reporters:
‘Most – if not all – of the other staff were completely unaware this was happening.
‘But the room where they were taken was able to be identified from the NHS insignia in the background.’
A spokesperson for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said:
‘We can confirm a member of staff has been suspended pending an internal investigation.’
