A man who died in a quarry accident in the West Highlands of Scotland on Sunday has been named as 24-year-old Kenneth Campbell of Dunbeg, near Oban. Mr Campbell was working as a fitter at the quarry.
BBC news reports that police were called to an incident at the Glensanda superquarry just before 6pm on Sunday (18/10/09). The quarry is situated in a remote area of the Morvern Peninsula in Lochaber – it is one of the largest quarries in Europe and produces ‘millions’ of tonnes of rock every year.
A spokesman for the Northern Constabulary confirmed that offices had been sent to deal with an accident at the quarry on Sunday evening.
There are no roads leading directly to the quarry and supplies and personnel have to be transported by boat. The rock is exported worldwide by containers for road building and to the construction industry.
No further details of the accident have been released.
