A man in his 80s was left with a partially-severed arm after a DIY accident involving a circular saw at his home in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire on Thursday (22/10/09) afternoon.
BBC News reports that the man was attended by two East of England ambulance paramedics despatched from their base at RAF Wyton. The paramedics were trained by the charity Magpas, which has an emergency medical team and community first responders, who are able to supply additional support to patients at the scene of accidents.
Magpas works alongside the East Anglian Ambulance Service and the East of England Ambulance Service.
The team used a military ‘quick clot’ dressing on the victim before airlifting him to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridgeshire.
Spokeswoman for the charity Debbie Florence, told BBC News:
‘The two paramedics delivered a very high-level specialist care to the gentleman.
‘The ambulance trust and Magpas are committed to providing the very highest level of pre-hospital medical care, thanks to the unique relationship between the two emergency services.’
No further details of the accident or the man’s condition have been released.
