A 34-year-old woman has suffered potentially life threatening head injuries after her car smashed into a tree outside a school near Lymington in Hampshire on Monday (26/10/09).
The 34-year-old driver was negotiating a bend in her VW Golf car at around 8.30am, but crashed into a tree outside Hordle Walhampton School. She also suffered serious injuries to her legs and face, according to a report by local newspaper the Southern Daily Echo.
Police, ambulance and fire crews attended the scene of the accident, after smoke was seen coming from the car’s engine after the crash. A fire crew from Lymington cut the woman free from her car – she is believed to come from Holbury in Hampshire.
The school is currently on half-term break and no one else is reported to have been involved in the accident.
Local police are appealing for witnesses to the crash and would like to speak to the driver of a green Range Rover car whom they say might have vital information about the crash.
Police said that passengers travelling to and from the Wightlink cross-ferry terminal at Lymington might also have information about the accident.
No further reports on the condition of the woman have been released – she was taken to hospital after being cut free from her vehicle.
