A 16-year-old schoolgirl has died after slipping under a train at Angmering Station near Littlehampton, in West Sussex.

The accident happened on Saturday (21/11/09) night as the girl was running along the platform, tapping on the train window to a 19-year-old male friend who does not wish to be named.

Sky News reports that passengers on the train saw the girl disappear. Her friend told local news reporters:

‘She got off the train and started running and then she just suddenly slipped. She was wearing high heels and she fell in the gap between the train and the platform. I don't know for what reason she was running.

‘At one point she was literally in front of me and then seconds later she was on the track.

Everyone had their head in their hands. Everyone was crying and screaming. Her best mate was just screaming. It was horrific. She was utterly distraught.’

Emergency services attended the scene, but Megan Moore was pronounced dead at the scene. She was a pupil at Angmering School.

The schoolgirl’s friends and family have left flowers at the scene – and an RIP page has been set up on Facebook.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said the accident was reported at 11.57pm on Saturday night and the incident is being treated as ‘non-suspicious’.

‘It appears that the girl was running alongside the train, tapping on the window as it left the platform, when she slipped between the platform and the train, which was the 2217 London Victoria to Bognor Regis service. The train performed an emergency stop and halted still partly in the platform.’

Police are calling for anyone who witnessed the accident to contact them.
