A mother and two sons who were killed in a car crash in the Highlands of Scotland at the weekend were delivering Christmas presents to a relative, according to a friend of the family, The Rev Bruce Thompson.
BBC News reports that 36-year-old Michelle Owen – a home carer from Scone in Perthshire – and her sons, 13-year-old Callum and 11-year-old Ethan, were killed on Saturday (05/12/09) morning in a collision involving three vehicles on the A95 near Aviemore.
The family had been travelling to see the boys' grandmother to deliver Christmas presents. The road was closed for several hours following the crash and one man was taken to Aviemore health centre suffering from minor injuries.
The Rev Bruce Thompson led prayers for the family at Scone Old Parish Church on Sunday. Michelle Owen was a regular helper at the church and her sons were in the boys’ brigade at the church, said Rev Thompson.
‘The thoughts and prayers and church support are here for them and their father Ian. They were normal boys. They were popular – everyone knew them and liked them. Our thoughts and prayers are with them all.’
Police at Aviemore are calling for witnesses to the accident. The road was closed for several hours for a preliminary investigation to take place. The crash occurred at around 9.20am and the scene was attended by three ambulances and a helicopter.
