The 15-month-old baby daughter of leading racehorse trainer Derek Shaw has died after falling from a farm tractor.
The Daily Telegraph reports that toddler Ellie Mae Shaw was sitting on the tractor after a ride with her father at the family’s training yard near Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire. She fell as her father went to help her down from the tractor.
Ellie Mae was flown to hospital by Air Ambulance but died shortly after arrival at Coventry Walsgrave Hospital.
Leicestershire Police are currently investigating the incident, which happened on Monday (18/01/10) afternoon.
Mr Shaw, 52, and his 34-year-old wife Lyndsey have paid tribute to the efforts of the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance in trying to save their daughter.
‘If Ellie could have been saved, their speedy response would have given her every chance,’ they said.
‘The whole family cannot believe how wonderful the doctors and nurses were at Coventry and Walsgrave Hospital.’
