A 45-year-old cameraman died after reportedly hitting his head following Arsenal’s Champions League quarter-final game against Barcelona on Wednesday (31/03/10). The Sun newspaper reports that the unnamed ITV cameraman was packing up his equipment after the game at the Emirates Stadium in North London when he hit his head. There are further reports he may have fallen. A post-mortem has been carried out, but the cause of death has not yet been established. Police and ambulance crews were called to the stadium at around 10pm. A spokeswoman for the London Ambulance Service said: ‘We were called to reports of a cardiac arrest. Extensive efforts were made to resuscitate the patient.’ The police and Health and Safety Executive are investigating the incident, but a spokesman for Scotland Yard said that there were no suspicious circumstances. The cameraman was said to be busy packing away his equipment just minutes after the match ended when the incident occurred. He was rushed to hospital but pronounced dead on arrival. Arsenal bosses have sent their commiserations to the man’s family and a tribute was published in the club’s programme for Saturday’s match. © 5r1 Limited 2010 |
