| Four dead in separate kayaking accidents in just one week |

A 19-year-old man from Cleveland in Teesside has died in a kayaking accident in Perthshire, Scotland.
The Northern Echo reports that the unnamed teen died on Wednesday (07/04/10), after becoming trapped under rocks on the River Tay.
The incident occurred at around 1.30pm, when fire crews, a Royal Navy helicopter from HMS Gannet and a local rescue boat were called to the scene.
Fast flowing waters prevented rescue teams from releasing the kayak – it is reported that the battle to save the teenager lasted for several hours. On Thursday, teams were still battling the current to try and recover the teenager’s body – police confirmed that a recovery operation was underway.
The organisers of a slalom canoe event due to be held on the river have cancelled it as a mark of respect to the friends and family of the victim.
In County Waterford in Ireland on Wednesday, two men also died in a kayaking accident in a tributary of the River Suir. Both drowned when they became trapped after sailing into a weir on the river.
It is reported that they got into difficulties on the River Clodagh at Portlaw at around 9pm – local rescue teams recovered the first body about an hour later. The second man's body was recovered from the water at around 11.30pm.
On Tuesday this week, Leeds University student Emily Parker, 20, from Doncaster, died when was when her kayak overturned while she was out kayaking with a group of friends on the River Coe in Glencoe, Argyll in Scotland on Tuesday.
