A firefighter on a training exercise in the River Tweed in Scotland has been taken to hospital after a training accident.
BBC News reports that officers from Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service managed to get their colleague to the riverbank, where he was resuscitated and taken to Borders General Hospital. His condition is said to be stable.
The accident happened on Friday (09/04/10) at around 2.30pm at Yair Bridge over the River Tweed in Selkirkshire. The river is said to be swollen with a fast flowing current after recent heavy rainfall.
Four fire appliances were already at the scene when the incident occurred – the alarm was raised that one of the men training was in difficulties in the water.
A spokeswoman for Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service said:
‘We were carrying out water rescue training on the River Tweed in the Borders and there has been an incident.
‘One of the fire fighters got into difficulties. He was taken to hospital where we understand he is now in a stable condition.
‘We will be carrying out a full accident investigation,’ she added. © 5r1 Limited 2010 |
