| Welwyn motorcyclist dies after collision with pickup van |

A 63-year-old motorcyclist from Welwyn Garden City has died after an accident involving a car.
The St Alban’s & Harpenden Review reports that the road accident occurred on Friday (14/05/10) at around 11.45am in Welwyn Garden City.
The crash between a black Suzuki motorbike and a white Toyota pickup van took place on the B1000 – near the viaduct in Hertford Road, Welwyn.
The unnamed motorcyclist sustained serious injuries in the road crash and was airlifted to the Royal London Hospital after the accident. The man was reported to be fighting for his life after sustaining life threatening injuries, but died from those injuries on Saturday.
Paramedics praised two passersby who at the time of the collision and stopped to give the motorcyclist first aid.
Hertfordshire ambulance service spokesman Gary Sanderson said:
‘They both gave immediate aid to the injured man and they continued to help the paramedics when they arrived. Their assistance was very much appreciated.’
The driver of the white Toyota pickup van – a 21-year-old man from Northamptonshire – was arrested after the crash and charged with dangerous driving. He has been bailed until July.
Police are appealing for the drivers of two cars seen near the vehicles at the time of the accident to come forward, as they may have vital information regarding the accident.
