A 16-year-old girl has died after trying to rescue her pet dog from the railway line at Morley Station, just outside Leeds.
Sky News reports that Natasha Elliott died after being hit by the 17.52 York to Blackpool North Northern Rail service on Sunday evening. She was taken to hospital by ambulance after the accident, but died later.
Police said they were first notified of the accident at around 6.44pm. Natasha’s death is not being treated as suspicious, said a police spokesman, and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
‘Our thoughts are with Natasha's family and friends at this difficult time, the spokesman said.
‘The incident is not been treated as suspicious and a file will be now prepared for the coroner.’
Natasha was thought to have been walking with her boyfriend near Morley station when her pet dog strayed onto the track just 500 yards from her home.
The Daily Mail reports that Natasha’s dog – a German Shepherd called Zeus – survived the accident.
