A cyclist was seriously injured after a collision with a van in Bridgwater, Somerset on Monday morning (24/05/10).
Website www.thisisthewestcountry.co.uk reports that the accident happened during the early part of the rush hour in Bridgwater, when the cyclist crashed into the back of a Fiat van.
A 40-year-old man was taken to Musgrove Park Hospital with serious injuries. Bath Road was closed to allow emergency services reach the scene of the accident. The road re-opened later but one witness to the accident told local newspaper The Bridgwater Mercury that the scene was ‘chaotic’.
Acting Inspector Max Puddy from Bridgwater Police Station said:
‘A cyclist has been hurt in a collision with a lorry. Our officers are examining the scene and crash investigators are also on their way.’
Initial reports suggested that the cyclist sustained head injuries in the crash. He underwent a scan at Musgrove Park Hospital and was then transferred to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol, where there is a specialist head injuries unit.
Police officers are appealing for witnesses with any information about the road accident to come forward.
